Getting to know Maryland a little better involves getting to know the history of the state. Although I’ve been through my share of history classes, there’s still so much more to learn. Given that February is Black History month, and that Black history is American history, I’ve taken this opportunity to gather a series of resources I’ve found that highlight of Black communities on the Chesapeake Bay.

Being a Chesapeake Conservation Corps Host: Rock Creek Conservancy
For the past two years, the Chesapeake Bay Trust has solicited applications from various non-profit groups around Maryland, to be Chesapeake Conservation Corps hosts. The Chesapeake Conservation Corps was started in 2010, with the help of Constellation Energy and the State of Maryland, to provide job experience training for young adults seeking to enter the environmental field. The Rock Creek Conservancy is currently hosting a Conservation Corps member, Braeden Bumpers. See what Rock Creek Conservancy's experience has been since having Braeden on board.

An Accidental Volunteer
One morning when Graham Fowler was walking his two greyhounds he came across a place he had driven past before, but never explored. Tucked away from the main road was the Howard County Conservancy. He wasn't looking to become a volunteer, he already had a full-time job and rescued greyhounds, but he was drawn to the Conservancy.
