Examples of Model Projects:

Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability

Baltimore County DEPS will complete constructible design plans for nine publicly owned project sites identified in the Tidal Back River Small Watershed Action Plan as strong candidates for impervious surface removal, bio-retention cells, reforestation and in one case a living shoreline.  The sites include seven schools, one community center and one Park and Ride lot.

Sassafras River Association

Sassafras River Association developed a Watershed Action Plan, which met the EPA criteria for 319 funding.  It includes characterization, field assessments (stream corridor assessment, synoptic survey, upland assessment and shoreline survey), and most importantly a list of prioritized restoration strategies including reduction in pollutant loads, cost estimates and funding opportunities.  The purpose of the Sassafras Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) is to develop a scientifically robust assessment that will guide restoration activities in the Sassafras Watershed for current and future years.  During the process, SRA engaged a cross-section of stakeholders to guide the plan anticipating that these same stakeholders will be directly involved in implementation.

Blue Water Baltimore

Blue Water Baltimore developed six surveys and designs for rain garden installation and impervious surface removal work at schools in both Baltimore City and County.   This work follows from the goals set by both the Upper Back River Small Watershed Action Plan and the Lower Jones Fall Small Watershed Action Plan.  Following the completion of these designs, Blue Water Baltimore has successfully secured implementation funding from the Trust’s Restoration grant program.
