Examples of Model Projects:

Savage River Headwater Restoration

CBT, in conjunction with Maryland DNR, MDE, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and FishAmerica Foundation, helped to fund the Savage River Watershed Association’s restoration of a headwater stream of the Savage River in western Maryland. The project required extensive surveying, modeling, design, and permitting, in addition to the coordination of nearly a dozen project partners. 1000 linear feet of native brook trout headwaters and over an acre of floodplain wetland and buffers were restored in this 18-month long effort.

Real Food Farms Runofff Irrigation Project

In 2011, the Trust awarded a Restoration grant to Civic Works for use on their Real Food Farm property in Baltimore City. The project is an innovative urban runoff re-use project that will collect stormwater from Real Food Farm’s agricultural hoop houses, store it in cisterns, and re-use it as needed for crop irrigation. Because this rainwater never flows across the ground, it is clean and totally usable for growing food. In addition to the significant community benefits of the Real Food Farm operations, this project will actually reduce the amount of runoff that enters the Harris Creek watershed in Baltimore City. Project partners include Blue Water Baltimore and the City of Baltimore.
