The Trust has funded seven Targeted Watershed projects, four in the 2004-2005 funding cycle, and three in the 2005-2006 funding cycle in partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In the 2005-2006 cycle, the Trust, NFWF and EPA together awarded $2.6 million in Maryland:
University of Maryland/Chesapeake Bay Foundation: $998,300
Enhancing Nutrient Efficiencies on Dairy Farms in the Monocacy River Watershed
Deliverables include:
- Implementation of precision dairy feeding on 20 farms
- Reduction of nitrogen by 248K pounds
- Use of precision feeding by half of watershed's dairy farms within six years
Chesapeake Bay Recovery Partnership: $800,000
Corsica River Watershed: A Community Response to Pollution Runoff
Deliverables include:
- 200 storm water BMPs on 50 acres of (sub)urban land
- Restoration of 10 acres of wetlands
- 50 acres of forested buffers
- Reduction of nitrogen by 1200 pounds
Maryland Department of Agriculture: $796,600
Innovative BMP Strategies in the Choptank River Watershed
Deliverables include:
- Enrollment of 6000 acres/year in commodity cover crop program
- Reduction of nitrogen by 32K pounds
- Installation of drainage control structures
