Living Shorelines Grant Program Now Open
Deadline: March 5, 2010
The Chesapeake Bay Trust, in conjunction with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Restoration Center and the Maryland Department of the Environment, is soliciting proposals to create and promote living shorelines in the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C portions of the Chesapeake Bay. "Living shorelines" are defined as shoreline stabilization techniques that use natural habitat elements to protect shorelines from erosion while also providing critical habitat for Bay wildlife. The funding partners invite non-profit organizations, community associations, academic institutions, and state and local governments to submit applications for the Living Shoreline Initiative grant program. Pioneer Grant Program Now Open
Deadline: March 26, 2010
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is now accepting applications for our Pioneer Grant Program. The Pioneer Grant Program is designed to accelerate the rate of nutrient and sediment load reduction in the Chesapeake Bay. The 2010 Pioneer Grant Program is focused on new techniques, new information, or new programs that will help managers, policy-makers, restoration scientists, and others achieve load reductions faster and more efficiently. Watershed Assistance Grant Program Now Open
Deadline: April 2, 2010
The Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources welcome requests for technical planning and design assistance associated with protection and restoration programs and projects that lead to improved water quality in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay watershed and the Maryland Coastal Bays. Mini Grant Program Now Open
The Mini Grant Program supports the Trust’s mission of building environmental stewards through restoration, outreach, and education programs. The majority of the awards made through this program provide support to schools for field experiences and on-the ground student service projects. Non-profit organizations and other groups are also eligible for funding to support small-scale projects that promote community engagement and awareness of local environmental issues. Each year, the Chesapeake Bay Trust recognizes outstanding achievements by educators, students, and individuals who work creatively to build environmental stewards in communities throughout Maryland. Through our Teacher of the Year Award, Ellen Fraites Wagner Award, and Honorable Arthur Dorman Scholarship, we are proud to honor their accomplishments. The Trust is now accepting applications for our Ellen Fraites Wagner Award.
2010 Ellen Fraites Wagner Award
The Chesapeake Bay Trust Ellen Fraites Wagner Award recognizes a Maryland citizen who has shown tireless dedication to help preserve and protect the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers and streams. The winner receives a $5,000 cash award. For more details on the award or to apply, click here.
Chesapeake Bay Trust Joins EPA Region III Administrator Shawn Garvin, MDE Secretary Shari Wilson, and Partners to Announces Recovery Act Funded "Green Infrastructure" Projects
The Chesapeake Bay Trust was awarded $3 million in federal Recovery Act funding from the Maryland Department of the Environment to install “green infrastructure” projects in 7 Maryland communities. Located in Anne Arundel, Talbot, and Prince Georges County, these living shorelines and community greening projects have both environmental and economic impacts. The Trust recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony attended by EPA Region III Administrator Shawn Garvin, MDE Secretary Shari Wilson, and federal, state and local officials. Read more here.
Chesapeake Bay Trust to Receive Federal Funds for Clean Water Jobs Training Initiative
As part of the federal spending package recently approved by Congress, the Chesapeake Bay Trust was awarded $116,000 for a new Clean Water Jobs Training Initiative. The funds, which will come from the Department of Labor’s Employment Training Administration, were requested for the Trust by Senator Benjamin Cardin and Congressman Frank Kratovil. The training initiative will focus on job opportunities related to community greening, stormwater management, and habitat restoration. Read more here.

The Chesapeake Bay Trust ranks in the top 1% of charities nationwide according to Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent evaluator of charities. For the seventh consecutive year, the Chesapeake Bay Trust has received a 4-star rating for its sound fiscal management and accountability. This multi-year ranking, the highest available for a nonprofit organization, indicates that the Chesapeake Bay Trust has been a notably efficient and effective steward of its financial resources.
